PRIMARY DEPARTMENT

The Primary Department is synonymous with enthusiasm, and dedication and comprises grades III and IV with four divisions in each STD. The Time Table has a balanced approach towards curricular and co-curricular activities. The concepts of developmental readiness, curiosity, increasing mental focus, emotional awareness, and physical ability as well as widening aesthetic, social, and ethical skills form an essential part of teaching.

The Head of the Department along with the teacher team adheres to the ‘Thematic approach’ to work with environmental themes and Math concepts, weaving in language skills viz listening, speaking, reading, and writing and other subjects which can be integrated with the subtopics. Three Indian languages- Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati continue with formal writing in the Primary School.

The Project Methodology is undertaken in the Primary school where students identify what they already know and what they would like to explore catering to Multiple Intelligence theory. The students are provided with carefully designed hands-on activities, skill-based readers, specially curated booklets, and worksheets. Their content knowledge and acquired skills are presented in various ways viz Sports Day, Project Days, Educational Fair, and Annual Day.

The department focuses not only on the mind but also on the heart as an attempt is made to ingrain values of integrity, empathy, teamwork, sharing, and many more. The teacher is a facilitator of learning and pre-planning and usually, the concepts are introduced via hands-on activities, followed by pictorial representation, and written work. It goes beyond the covers of a book to let the students experience the reality of a world and spark curiosity which results in lifelong learning. This is imparted through a plethora of activities and learning methodologies like experimentation, educational field trips, interaction with the resource person, role play, clay work, model making, cooking activities, assemblies, interviews, celebrating festivals and events, and so on. It churns out students who thirst for more knowledge and learning.

The Primary Department follows a Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation approach that involves ongoing and regular evaluation of students' learning through formative and summative assessments. The analysis is not only feedback for students but also for teachers to evaluate and review their teaching-learning patterns.

The students are exposed to global dimensions through their ongoing curriculum where they collaborate and develop partnerships with schools in different parts of the world and share good practices across borders via letters and emails leading to an exchange of cultural practices and experiences. The Sustainable Development Goals are weaved into the curriculum to create awareness amongst young minds. Enhanced focus on application and skill building for both intellectual and physical ability, which are required for further standards, helps the students to grow confidently and aids in an easy transition into Middle School thereafter.
